Undo Moving Stress

  • Let us ponder some of life’s most stressful moments, reader.  Though I have not done it myself, I would assume that raising a child can prove to be somewhat stressful, albeit in an enjoyable sort of way.  I would also assume that working in politics is rather stressful, though I cannot honestly say that I have ever had to work in that capacity.  So what is something that I actually do have first person experience with?  Oh, yeah.  Moving.  I have quite a bit of experience when it comes to moving your belongings.  As such, I have a few things to say when it comes to streamlining your moving process and cutting down on all of that awful stress that you would otherwise experience.  If you have a few minutes to spare, allow yourself to read through this article and learn a little bit about how to move effectively.

Of course, the first thing that you are going to have to do to cut down on stress, here, is make sure that you are actually giving yourself enough time to move.  To illustrate this point, I will share with you a little story that comes from my own life.  One time, I knew that I had to be out of an apartment in three weeks.  That, I thought, was plenty of time to sort through my things, make donations, pack everything up in boxes, and bring it over to my new place.  But oh, how wrong I was!  What did I actually end up doing?  I waited until the very last minute.  I waited until the final 48 hours to even begin packing.  As you can imagine, I was pretty stressed out during those last couple of days, and I ended up throwing away some stuff that I probably should have kept.  The lesson, here, is rather simple.  IF you have some time to sort through your belongings and get them packed up correctly, then you have to be sure that you are making use of that time.  Time, in these regards, might as well be gold as far as you are concerned.

Second of all, reader, you have to be sure that you are not stressing yourself out by thinking too far ahead.  The name of the game, here, is chore management.  Sit down for an hour or so and come up with a list of your chores.  Then, one by one, start doing them and crossing them off of the list.  The act of crossing something off of a list is cathartic in and of itself, but handling your chores one at a time is what is really going to kill your stress.  When you try to juggle a thousand different chores at once, and you fail to make significant progress on any of them, that is when you really begin to stress yourself out.

Finally, reader, be sure that you are thinking things through.  Before you throw things away, make doubly certain that you cannot donate them.  While it may be tempting to throw away the things that you do not want to do with, you should avoid the urge and try to find a nice place to drop them off.  I mean, not everyone is doing as well as you are.  The trash of one man is the treasure of another, as they say.
