Furniture Storage – Moving and PackingBy admin on December 20, 2008 | 121 Comments
The next time you decide to move make a plan well in advance. This is a thought that comes to many minds after a move is made from one location to another, while going through the numerous hassles and problems of relocating. The main problem is faced while packing furniture and making a choice of their warehouse location. The first thought that comes to mind, when we know about relocating is where to store the furniture and how to store them causing no or minimum damages. Furniture storage should be done with care and meticulous planning, because once damaged it is hard to get them in their original form. Many people go shopping for the best moving and packing company of their region to take care of their furniture until they are able to settle down. While others who cannot trust these companies undertake the entire packing and relocating work them.
There are many factors which need to be considered before you are thinking about furniture storage . The first thing that you need to think about is that, you need to store your furniture on short term basis or long term basis. If it is for a shorter duration then planning may be different, but long term planning needs some more considerations. For long term warehousing, you need to look for warehouses which have climate controlled options. Excessive heat, dampness or chillness may cause permanent damage to your furniture. Moreover, if you are residing in areas of severe climatic conditions then temperature controlled units become necessary. Besides this, you need to see that the place you choose for furniture storage is secured. Usually many companies have their warehouses located far away towards the outskirts of cities. These companies need to be checked with respect to their security measures and accessibility options too. It may happen that being remotely located transportation is a problem or safety may be a problem. It is best to take references from friends and relatives about these places, specially related to security and accessibility. But it is best to choose a facility that is near residential areas or similar places, since in such conditions your commutation costs can be reduced to a great extent.
When you decide to store your furniture think about the packing phase also, when all your furniture has to be well packed in boxes and crates. Many people prefer to pack the goods themselves while others take the help of professional experts. Professionals can do the best packing for you since they are trained and to a certain extent experts in packing. They can best advice you on packing materials, which items need to packed first, on the placement of items and also their specific placing when they are loaded on trucks and transportation vehicles. Furniture storage experts also advice you on their work procedure and method of warehousing so that you can be assured that
Furniture storage professionals take care of your worries from the beginning since your plan to move is conveyed to them and by the time their services are hired. The first task that most of the companies do is assessment of goods that need to be packed. They usually visit the client premises to make a physical verification of goods that need to be packed. Once this is done, they make a plan of the entire process and consult you for final approval and suggestions. Once they are confirmed your storing woes are reduced and many a times completely gone as you know your furniture is well stored.

How To Organize Your Self Storage UnitBy admin on December 5, 2008 | 5 Comments
When you are renting your self storage unit you have to keep certain things in your mind. The cost of the unit is definitely one of them. You must keep in mind that you have to use the storing space optimally, so that you do not spend extra for any unused space. The price is directly related to the size of the unit. For a large unit you have to pay more. But, if you plan ahead and make a schedule of how to organize your storing unit, then plenty of articles can be fit into a comparatively smaller sized unit. Thus you can have cost effective storing for your articles.
You must be aware of two important things while organizing your self storage unit . First and foremost, you have to place your articles in such a way that you can access them easily whenever you require them. After completing a hectic storing process, you might find that your most important tool box has been kept at the most inaccessible portion of the unit. Another important aspect of your storing is the proper protection of your items. While packing up and organizing the unit, you must be very careful to provide the safest and secured condition for your belongings. You can not afford to damage or destroy your valuable items, by paying the storing fee for a professional center.
Here is a list of things you might consider for organizing your self storage unit properly.
• If you think that the floor of the unit is not properly cleaned, then dust it properly and lay down plastic sheets or boards to protect your items from dust and humidity.
• In case of single heavy items or heavy packing boxes, you can use the trolleys supplied by the storing unit. Some facilities offer this service at free of cost, whereas some do accept a small charge for this.
• Leave some space for accessing the items at the back. You can either leave a walkway at the center or keep the boxes or the items at the center and leave space beside the wall.
• The largest items must be kept within the self storage unit before anything else.
• For stacking of boxes, keep the heaviest box at the bottom and lighter boxes on top of them. Thus, your lighter items will not get damaged by heavier items.
• To maximize the usage of space, keep the same sized boxes or items together.
• Maintain a little distance from the wall while storing the boxes. Many times the walls get dampened, which might transfer to the items creating moulds within the items. Also, there should be some ventilation within the unit.
• Make a list of items which you might require often and keep them at the front side of the unit for easy access.
• Do not keep anything leaning on the wall of the self storage unit .
• Level all the boxes mentioning the contents of the box and place the level in such a way that it could be visible.
• Put plenty of insect repellants, moisture absorbers and air fresheners here and there to keep the unit fresh, clean and dry.
• Finally, do not put any vulnerable article within the store. Try to abide by the discipline of the storing company. This is going to be good for the wellness of your items.

Nationwide Reservation LinesBy admin on September 21, 2006 | 127 Comments
Written by Glennetta Haymon, PhoneSmart call center newbie.
Welcome to the PhoneSmart call center blog. Where we offer an insider view of the self storage industry.A nationwide self storage reservation line call can be challenging because so often we are not able to help as we would like to. One of our nationwide reservation lines attracts customers calling a well known cellular phone company. We are able to give them a number that may be of help to them but if they are not calling for the phone company, then occasionally we don’t have the storage facility location they are looking for on our screen. We must treat these customers as if they were going to rent with us anyway. We must try our best to find a facility that is convenient for them. The best thing we can do for these customers is to turn to other resources available. When there is not a facility available we try to locate something for them through our storage concierge service. The customer may become frustrated because we do not have information on hand at the time that they need it, and may not want us to search. If they do we must be patient with these customers because it may be an inconvenience for them that someone will have to call them back, rather than us just giving them the information over the phone. Try to search all available sources and if the customer denies this request, ask them if there is anything else that you can help them with and be pleasant. These avenues of reference and good sales techniques can lead to a sales increase.Your local self storage unit provider in 6401 Third St. Stock Island Key West, FL. 33040

Accommodating the Handicapped ClientBy admin on July 17, 2006 | 2 Comments
Mary, PhoneSmart call center operator joins our discussion about handicapped access.
Welcome to the PhoneSmart call center blog and diary of the self-storage industry.
Isn’t it interesting that we don’t think about the restrictions that someone has until we are in their shoes or hear about their special needs?Today I received a call from a lady who is 1/2 Handicapped as she put it. As I was giving her the location of the unit, (an interior unit), she told me that she had a problem walking and wanted to know how far down the hall she would have walk. Of course I tried to get a reservation, but I can see where she was coming from when she refused. I looked for something that was drive up accessible, but nothing available. I went ahead with the hot lead explaining that the manager could call her back with specific information about the site and also invited her for a site visit. I also let the manager know in the notes that if one is coming available that is easier to access, to let her know that too.I have not received very many of these types of calls, however when I do, I try to put them at ease and let them know that I understand that they need conveniences that will help them out as much as possible. I look for units that will benefit them 1st, but also give those options of upper units as well and let them make the choice, unless they have specifically asked for the easiest unit to get into. Since I am not at the site, I’m blind as to the layout of the facility, but I try to assist them the best I can, trying to see things from their point of view. I make sure to let the manager know what the handicap is, such as hard of hearing, and so on. It just makes it easier for the manager to know how to communicate and accommodate that customer. I’m sure the customer appreciates that as well.Storage Concierge Self Storage in Georgia
