When people shift from one location to another location they have to face a lot of problems. Nobody wants to change residences just for the fun of it. Many times their employers transfer them to a different city and at times one has to change their residence due to business reasons. If they find that their business has a better opportunity in a different city, they just do not have any other alternative apart from shifting. The pains associated with such relocations are many. They have to find new schools for their kids and they have to rebuild contacts in their new locality. The worst problem one faces while relocating is to find a storeroom to keep their goods while in transit. There are occasions when the new flat is much smaller than the old one and people will not find sufficient space to keep all their goods. It is in these circumstances that people start hunting for the best self storage options.

While there are many organizations that will take care of your stuff while you are shifting from one place to another, you might be thinking which one of them is right for you? One has to look into every aspect before they decide which is the best self storage option. If you are lucky enough to find a bigger flat then most of your headaches are done away with. Just set up one room for keeping all your unnecessary stuff. For those who were unorganized, this is the opportunity to set things right. Shop around for small cardboard boxes and label them properly.

These boxes help one to decide their best self storage problems. Since you have to do the packing again, it is high time that you pack your extra stuff in an organized manner. Make out a list of your items and check out those that are required on a frequent basis. In the same manner, check out those that are required infrequently and finally also make a note of the items that you might never require. You can safely discard those that you will not require at all. Once this is done with, you can start stuffing the goods in the proper boxes. The boxes that contain goods, which will be required at frequent intervals, should be stored in the front panel, while keeping the less required goods at the back.

But if you are not fortunate enough to find a bigger flat, you can take the assistance of many organizations that will help you to keep your goods in their premises for a nominal rent. In this case too you might need to hunt a bit to find the best self storage options. There might be organizations that are willing to give out their cargo space to you at a cheap rate, but are they located close to your residence or office?

It makes no sense to go for low values when you might have to pay a substantial amount in gas bills to reach that place. The best self storage option should not only offer you the basic amenities but, at the same time, it should be located at a reasonable distance from your residence or from your place of work. You have to keep all these things in mind before selecting one.

If you are not planning to spend a huge amount for your storing then you might go for cheap self storage alternative. This is the perfect solution for you, if your storable items are not so much sensitive, and you are going to store them for a short period of time. There are many storing companies offering the facility of cheap storing. The rates are quite reasonable at these places, whereas you will receive quite a number of facilities over here. But, to find out these reasonable alternatives, you need to invest some time for research on the storing facilities near to your place.

You should visit these cheap self storage centers personally, to find out their rate structure. Many times they have some type of discounts or offers available on their net price. This makes the option much cheaper. It is a very good storing solution, especially for the students or young professionals, as they can not afford something more than their stipulated budget. Before finalizing on any storing place, if you do some kind of research, then you will find that most of these cheap facilities offer varieties of services free of cost, like free transportation, free insurance etc. Thus you save a lot on your net storing expenditure.

Normally a cheap self storage will cut down your cost by offering free services to you. Firstly, you do not require hiring a van for moving your articles. The facility will send their pick up trucks for no additional cost. Loading up this vehicle is totally your responsibility. Here also you can cut down the cost of professional packing and loading by managing this stuff yourself. The staff of the facility will unload the boxes at their end. If you are hiring a container, then the company will deliver the empty container at their own responsibility, and you do not have to pay for that.

A cheap self storage center will not require you make prior deposits for storing. So, you can save your money from paying a lump sump amount. The companies do not charge any extra or hidden costs for your storing purpose. The companies have adequate security arrangements so that your belongings stay in a safe and secured condition. Hence, you do not need to buy additional padlock for your unit. But for your psychological satisfaction, you can put an extra lock to provide more security to the container.

All these cheap self storage centers accept any type of debit or credit cards. Normally, there is no additional expenditure, other than the rent of the unit and the unit delivery charge for transporting the unit to your home. The unit can be rented in a monthly basis till the time you decide to take your items. In case of any overpayments, the company will refund that at the end. The companies offer various deals for their customers time to time. If you can avail any of these, then you will save more on your total expenditure on storing.

As mentioned earlier, that to find out these specific companies, you need to do some sort of research through the internet. Make a list of such companies, which are easily reachable from your place. Then talk to their respective store managers, to gather information on their rates, discounts, terms and conditions. Select the one having cheapest rates. However, to find out the cheapest option, do not compromise over the minimum security issue for your goods.

While the warehousing of unused or unnecessary belongings has always been a problem, a new set of solutions have come up for the homeowners today. The best possible option among these is availing the services of professional storing companies that store your goods in exchange of a monetary amount as fees. Most such companies are hired by people who are either moving or do not have room for things they do not wish to discard yet. Whatever be the reason, if you rent self storage blocks for your goods and belongings, you need to scrutinize and compare your storing options very carefully before signing the contract with the concerned professionals.

Rent self storage place keeping these points in mind, which will allow you to guard against any untoward experience during the contract period.

Convenience
The convenience of travel and the proximity of the storing space from your perspective should always get the priority. The closer the storing unit, the lesser is your expense and stress.

Affordability
While you rent these places, make a thorough research on the affordability and comparative quality of different companies that offer such professional storing services. The cost may of renting 5×10 storing units annual rent may lie between 400 dollars to 600 dollars. The cost and the quality often depend on which locality or region you live or choose to store your goods and belongings in.

Size
Check for the actual size of the storing facility before hiring the services of the professional storing unit. Many a times, clients face a problem of plenty, which is renting a bigger space than required. Along with the wastage of valuable space, the clients investment is also unnecessary. And on the other hand, the store room is not enough for some clients. To avoid this problem, always make a visit on-site to make an estimate for your own cause.

Security
Ensure that when you rent self storage it has proper security arrangements. This does not only mean security of the building, but also a regular maintenance check on the stored goods. Usually codes or keys are provided personally to the clients to the storing units they have are using for the service. You as a client should also be clear about the storing companys insurance regulations. Otherwise, compensation for damaged or stolen goods would not be easy to retrieve from the self storing company.

Climate Controlled Units
While you rent self storage places with a professional storing company, make sure that it is climate controlled and has the measures of other seasonal elements under control. This is very important as many of the household belongings and goods in general are prone to damage from elements such as humidity, heat and other such climate-oriented factors. So, even if it costs a bit more than your conventional storing units, these spaces that have climate controlled storing units. This will actually help you gain a better output in the long run.

Therefore, now you have a clear idea as to what services should professional self storing companies provide you with. Ensure that you avail of all these services before you rent self storage places for your storing purposes. Also make it a point to get references and recommendations from professionals in the industry as well as people who have used these services before you. This will give you a fair idea as to what to expect and what expenses will be incurred apart from which is mentioned in the initial quote from the selected professional self storing company.

As more and more people opt for storing their belongings in paid storehouses, a number of firms dealing with realty are coming up with affordable self storage areas. There are expensive ones also but the good news is that most of the storehouse services are offered at very reasonable prices. Here are some points that a person intending to store items in a public storehouse should know.

• If one is an occupant of a rented house, the belongings that are not kept in the house but in a storehouse outside the premises of the household will not be covered under the tenancy insurance, which the owner provides to the belongings that are kept in the house. The items that are placed in an affordable self storage area need to be covered under a separate insurance plan.

• It is illegal to store potentially hazardous items in the storehouses. Inflammable items like gasoline, paints and cleaning fluids should never be used. Vehicles, motorized machinery, lawnmowers, boats etc. should be drained emptied of all gasoline before being sent to the storehouses. Food is prevented from being stored in storehouses, especially if it attracts a lot of rodents and pests.

• The items that are to be stored need to be cleaned and dried before being sent to the storehouse. Refrigerator doors should be kept slightly open to allow circulation of air. It is best to vacuum clean the items that would be going into the storehouses.

• The items that are accessed often should be placed in the front portion of the affordable self storage and the ones that are accessed less often should be placed behind the others. It is always better to place precious items in the back portion of the storehouse.

• The walls of the storehouse should be kept free. No article should be kept leaning on them. While packing items made of glass special care should be taken. They should be placed separately and in the most stable position. They should never be stacked with other items.

• Storing large furniture can be a problem. Large furniture should be disassembled to its constituent parts so that the individual components occupy less storing area. The components should be marked so that they can be reassembled easily later on.

• When packing items for an affordable self storage area, a lot of items like bubble wrap, tapes and boxes are required. It is always better to make a list of all the items required for packing and keep oneself ready with these items before starting the packing process.

• Books, when packed collectively can turn out to be the heaviest items. Hence, care should be taken that books are packed in small numbers in small boxes. It is a good idea to combine the packing of books with other items like lightweight fragile items. The fragile items should be placed in the centre with the books forming a protective wall on all the sides. But the packaging should be very tight so that there is no room for the constituent items to move in the container.

Affordable self storage areas might not contain some of the sophisticated features like environmental regulation and security infrastructure that is available with the expensive storehouses. But these storehouses are good for storing ordinary household items.

Dania Beach Storage http://florida-dania-beach-33312-self-storage.storage-mart.net/

You can describe a self storage center as a hotel to your belongings. As the concept of storing your things into a normal warehouse is loosing its popularity due to the hassle for managing the space, self storing places are becoming more and more popular. If you are looking for a small space to store the articles of your closet or you want a larger space to keep your all household things or your valuable RV or you want to keep your office material to a safe and secured place, this is the most simple and efficient solution affordable with reasonable rates.

Self storage is the facility where you have the control over the whole process. Once you book your storing space, you can store your items on your own. It is like an extension to your house, where you can have unlimited and flexible access. In normal warehouse procedure, you are bound to follow the rules and regulations of the company. In this case, the unit is totally under your control. You do not have to maintain any long term contracts or high rent charges. The space can be of any size, depending on your requirement.

You will get a full proof security system at any self storage center. Usually, you are the only authorized person having access to your storing space. You can also put an extra lock in order to secure the place to its maximum. In addition to this, most of the well known storing firms maintain a proper security arrangement. They have on site security staffs taking care of the warehouse throughout 24 hours a day, with CCTV connection. Each and every storing space has alarm system for fire and theft. Thus you can be rest assured about your important valuable items.

You will find a flexible and friendly agreement in any self storage firm. You can cancel the agreement at any time. You can ask for extra space, if you require storing more. Also, if you are left with unused space, after storing your belongings, you can adjust that whenever you feel like. There is no minimum time period. You can keep your things for long term or short term basis. Some of the facilities ask for a security deposit in advance, which is refundable when you are taking back your goods. The most important advantage of this is that you can access your storing space whenever you wish to without any extra cost.

The most inconvenient part of self storage is you will get no help in packing, moving, unloading or storing. You have to do all of these by your own capacity. You pack your goods, rent a truck or take your vehicle, load it and finally unload it in the warehouse. One way, this is better because you can manage your space to the extreme. You do not have to depend on any body to organize your storing place. Most of the storing firms have drive in facility to your storing unit and you can park just outside of it. Your items are going to be safe and secured, since you are the only person handling them.

To find the right facility for your storing requirement you can search the internet, local print media, yellow pages or TV channels for their advertisement. Finalize the place having most flexible terms and conditions with most reasonable rates.

Self storage prices are normally lower than the hiring charges of full service storing facilities. It is the pricing that is one of the prime factors that made self storing a successful business investment. Many companies dealing in regular storing services are diversifying into self warehousing business to expand their business base. This competition is resulting in regular reduction in the hiring charges or bringing in many incentives for the customer. In all cases the price fall is benefiting the customers who are a happy lot.

The self storage prices can depend on a variety of factors mainly centered on the service the companies are providing. Most of the companies have premises that house a number of units having various sizes. Almost all the companies have very small storing spaces of around twenty-five square feet. These are just enough to hold the belongings of half a room. These are priced below forty dollars per month and can be rented on monthly basis. Similarly, the sizes are available to hold all the articles of a room and up to the articles of a house. The largest of the units to house the articles can be of the size of approximately 300 square feet. These are enough to store almost all the furniture of a regular house. These can cost around 250 dollars per month.

The self storage prices also vary with the facilities they provide. The prices of regular facilities are less than the specialized ones like those having climate control options, those that can be accessed round the clock, round the year to those having special security. The price one pays for availing the special facilities are not always a misuse of money as those who have paid know. Take for example the climate controlled units. The climate controlled units have temperature and humidity control facility. The insulation for the purpose automatically seals off the dust that is always a concern when storing. The price they charge is not much over the traditional storing facilities but the safety and storing quality they offer can make a huge difference on the condition of the goods once they are retrieved after some time.

The self storage prices also vary from region to region and the prices mentioned above cannot be held as a yardstick all across the country. The incentives on offer can also vary. Many storing facilities are now providing packing boxes and materials on site and also through home delivery. This is outside the price of the hiring. Though you pay the price, you have the convenience of getting the materials at hand instantly. The supply can be bought as individual pieces and also as complete package which have all the paraphernalia associated with packing. Apart from the packing costs and hiring charges, one other expenditure completes the essential expenses of hiring a self storing unit. It is the administrative charge. This is not linked to the hiring charges and covers the costs related to formalities like signing of the agreement and related matters. You might have to pay a refundable security deposit in some cases.

Do not get fooled by the lucrative self storage prices . Check out all the facilities they are offering or not offering and compare the offers of quite a few companies. Also look for the reputation of the company and take suggestions from those who have used the facility if you can. This gives you a first hand experience and helps to judge better.

People store items that they do not use regularly and the ones that they cannot fit in their homes due to lack of space in commercial storing units provided by companies. In such a case the contract for renting is agreed upon by the self storage rental policies and rules laid down by the company offering the services. The renter should carefully go through all the clauses laid down in the contract and understand the implications. It is always better for the renter to take the advice of legal experts in case of understanding the implications of the clauses laid down in the contract. It is only after being clarified about each and every clause that the renter should sign the contract.

The renter should provide all the information that is required as per the agreement papers. The information provided should be accurate. No information that is asked for should be suppressed. The self storage rental policy makers of a particular company should verify the details provided by the renter from reliable sources and should accept the information only when satisfied. After signing the contract the payment agreed upon can be paid on a monthly or a pre-agreed upon term wise basis. The owner and the tenant should carry out the terms laid out in the contract in a smooth fashion. If not they can terminate the contract much before its validity period. However it is necessary for the party initiating the termination to notify the other party well before taking such a step. He should provide a notice period of about fifteen days.

The minimum period for a self storage rental is usually one month. Many companies do not issue any statements on a monthly basis regarding the payment of rents. The renters are expected to make the payments on a timely basis to the owners of the storing units. Many companies prefer that the payment for each month is done in advance at the company address. The renter should always bear in mind the terms and conditions laid out in the contract. He should use the storing units or premises according to the rules laid out in the agreement. He should not misuse the premises of the self storage rental for activities other than storing like repairing, renovating or for carrying out some business transactions of his own.

The renter should take the permission of the company offering the storing unit for posting any signs in the premises of the unit. Usually the owners do not allow the renters to nail or fasten anything on the walls of the units. Anything that is dangerous to the storing unit should not be stored. Inflammable materials should never be stored without taking special measures and the permission of the owner before storing. If the renter requires any specific arrangements, for example illumination in the unit than the one provided by the company, he should ask for it. If he plans to make any arrangements on his own, he should notify the self storage rental providers about his plans.

The renter should be very careful while operating the materials in the storing units. The company should give information to the renter about the general security issues to be considered while handling the units. If the renter injures himself by not following the instructions conveyed then the company cannot be held responsible for the plight of the renter.

Cheap self storage is what everybody looks for when faced with the scarcity of storing space. Use of self storing facilities are increasing day by day as people are finding it convenient to store the articles that they find storing in the house difficult or that they use only seasonally. The companies that provide the facility are also trying to cash in on the opportunity by offering a number of incentives to grab a share of the market. In such an atmosphere it is not very difficult to find cheap options of self storing.

One option to cut down on storing costs is to go for non-climate controlled storing facilities. It is a cheap self storage option that you can opt for. But make sure that you do not have articles that can get damaged due to action of weather or pests as these facilities cannot guarantee you of safety from these elements. These facilities are quite simple in nature and the security of these spaces is also not much. Here you can store articles that you feel are just cluttering your space and have not much value except for the fact that you just cannot dispose them in fear of use in the future. However, make some mental calculation whether storing these articles would be cheaper or disposing them for now and buying or hiring them when needed will be cheaper. If you find the later option cost effective then it is advisable to dispose them. It eliminates the option of storing altogether, let alone finding a cheaper option.

Another cheap self storage option is going for the mini mobile storing option if the requirement is for a short duration. In any situation it is prudent to first make a calculation of the space you require and the duration of the period for which you need to store. Then you should find the storing facility that suits you. If you storing is being made for periods of say half a year or a year then you have no option but to go for regular storing facility. But there is no need pay for it if you want to store for a short period of say a week or two. You will get very cheap options and can even cut down on the transportation as the mini units can be housed in your own driveway. The companies offering such facilities usually do not charge anything extra for delivery of the containers.

Finally, you can turn any type of storing options to cheap self storage opportunities by simply planning your storing facility. Remember that you are paying for space that is three dimensional. So think that way and not in two dimensions of length and breadth. Keep in mind the height of the warehouse space to stack it up to the top. Plan your storing in such a way that you utilize as much space as possible. Do not pay for empty spaces and you will find that your storing is costing reasonable to you. Do not hire space that is not required but also make sure that you do not stack the unit in such a way that you need to bring out all the articles every time you want to retrieve something. It can be concluded that all storing facility costs almost the same and finding cheap self storage among them cannot be easy, but you can always turn the advantage to your side by simple planning.

Many firms offer storing facilities for people who want to store and maintain their items in a good condition. Nowadays the demand for company provided storing units is on the rise and consequently there is also an increase in the firms providing such services. Many government and private firms have taken a plunge into the storing service business. The renter of a storing unit should be able to choose a firm that will provide him genuine services at reasonable rates. Though private firms offer good quality services, their government counterparts seem to be offering services of comparable quality at more reasonable prices. Hence it is always advantageous to opt for national self storage .

The government storing firms render services to both the residential and business personnel. One can expect the rent for the storing units provided by the government firms to be lower by at least twenty five percent than the rent prescribed by the private firms. However it is always advisable for one to check out directly with the firm providing the services on matters regarding the rent. With the government firms, one can be assured that one need not pay for something that he is not availing. There are no hidden charges imposed anywhere in the entire renting process.

National self storage firms are expected to provide reliable services to their renters and being administered by a central body, one can expect to find the terms and conditions the same in all the areas covered by a single jurisdiction. The prices at which the storing units and the services are provided can be expected to be lower than the market rates. One can be assured that his belongings will be stored in a secure manner in the company provided storing units. The storing units usually have electronically monitored gates with sophisticated security gadgetry. There are also TVs to monitor the activities going around the gate.

One should arrange the units of national self storage hired in a manner in which maximum number of items can be stored. Big furniture like sofa sets and couches should be kept in line with the walls of the unit. They can be placed in the periphery of the unit to save space in the middle. Otherwise these big items would occupy the major portion of the unit leaving little space for other items. All the items placed in the storing units should be covered. Even though the unit itself has a protective mechanism to combat environmental pollution it is always better for the owner of the property to provide his items with extra covering.

The middle portion of the national self storage warehouses should be left free so that one has space to walk in the unit and access the required items. Filling the central portion of the room right from the beginning with items will make it difficult for people to move around in the unit and carry out the required tasks. The central portion of the unit should be filled at the end. It is better to leave it free if possible. All fragile items should be covered with adequate padding and kept at a secure corner of the room where one can reach them with ease. They should not be put at the bottom or at the top as these are the places where there is a chance of their breaking. It is better to keep them in a middle shelf. The national self storage firms have special staff appointed to help one out in the placement of items in the most appropriate manner.

Climate controlled self storage is a must for many of the items that people use for the purpose of storing. Certain household or commercial purpose items might require to be maintained at temperatures and humidity other than that present naturally at a particular point of time. Many companies offer to maintain the uniformity in the temperature and humidity along with the general maintenance conditions though at an extra fee. It should be borne in mind that all companies do not offer the same facilities when it comes to environmental control.

Of course there are some standard facilities that they commonly offer like not letting the temperature in the storing drop below freezing in winter and not letting it rise above 32 degree centigrade in summer. Other than this the climate controlled self storage features offered by the different companies might be different from each other and hence it becomes necessary for one to ask the service providers of the specific environment control features what the provider would be offering. Some of the companies are flexible enough to offer specific environmental control features to their renters on an individual basis.

After being clarified about the features offered by the companies and also the price being charged for each environmental control amenity one should select the features that are best suited for storing his articles. He can consult a materials expert to know the exact climate controlled self storage features that are best suited for his belongings and then sign the renter agreement.

The basic reason for environmental proofing is to protect the material of an article from aging and damage. If the articles are stored in an enclosed room one need not worry about rain and snow because these elements will not penetrate the building. One need not bother about flood water entering the rooms where the articles are kept, if these rooms are located on elevated grounds or the higher floors of a building. Polluting agents like dust and dirt can also be prevented by making the storing enclosures dust and dirt proof.

This climate controlled self storage structures can also be cleaned regularly to keep them free of dirt. Polluting agents can play havoc on delicate items like electronic goods and some musical instruments. Apart from preventing the atmospheric agents like rain, snow, flood water, dust and dirt from touching the items placed, the environmental control in the storing units regulates the atmosphere in the unit so that the extremities in the weather conditions do not affect the items in any way. In the face of extreme temperature and humidity, environmental control in the storing units provides protection against the extremities by maintaining an optimum temperature and humidity that can be endured by the articles in the unit.

The climate controlled self storage centers are a necessity for savoring items made of wood and other climate vulnerable material like certain metals. Humidity damages wood and iron. Iron usually rusts on being exposed to high humidity and wood starts decaying. Antiques and musical instruments that are usually made of wood, metal or any other environmentally vulnerable material might just get deformed or cracked on being subjected to extreme weather conditions in which case it becomes necessary to store them in temperature and humidity proof units. Usually indirect heating and cooling mechanisms are employed in commercial storing units rather than applying direct heating and cooling in the individual units.

Her family was coming to stay for an extended visit. She needed to clear the clutter from her overstuffed basement to create a comfortable living space for them to stay in. She starts getting organized by going through the years worth of sporting goods, old clothes and craft supplies, furniture and seasonal decorations. She quickly realizes she is going to need a place to store the items she wants to keep. A good solution for her is the self storage buildings located nearby.

She needs to find the right unit for her needs within her budget. There are many questions she should ask before renting a unit.

What size does she need? Most self storage buildings offer units in a variety of sizes. She will estimate how much room she needs for everything. A good way to do this is to make a rough sketch of the items in an organized and accessible arrangement. Many smaller items, like clothing or craft supplies can be stored in larger containers that can be easily stacked. Pack the building to the ceiling instead of opting for a larger unit and having to pay for unused space.

Each facility will be able to give her an estimate on the square footage of their building units with height measurements as well. This is important because, for example, if you have a tall armoire you need to store, you do not want to have to dissemble it or store it on its side.

How long is the lease term? She should find out if she will need to rent units in self storage buildings for a minimum or maximum amount of time. Most units will require a one month rental, based on a month to month agreement. Prior notice is needed to decide to terminate the lease. There is no maximum amount of time she can use a unit.

She needed to find a unit that would be accessible anytime in case she needed some of the items placed in the unit. She asked the management of the self storage buildings about available access and if it is free of charge? Ask the facility manager how and when the units can be accessed and if there are any restrictions and charges.

What is the monthly cost for the unit? Self storage buildings rent units by the month and rates depend on the size and location of the unit. Temperature controlled units are often higher, up to 50 percent more than typical unit. Payments can be made many different ways. Will fees be pro rated for partial months? If she needs to rent a unit during the middle of the month or terminate the lease before a month ends find out if the rent will be adjusted accordingly.

Also, she will find out if a deposit will be required upfront. The facility may charge a deposit as well as a first and last months rent. Other facilities charge extra for security services, locks or a set up fee to add tenants to their computer system.

What type of security is implemented? Many facilities have twenty four hour security or closed circuit video cameras. She needed to store her valuable antique furniture and needed a good security system to protect her valuables.

She had antiques and paper documents that would be placed in the units. She asked if the facility had climate controlled units. Valuable documents that can warp and mold need a place that is free of humidity, with a set temperature. For an extra cost allows her to rent a unit where the humidity and temperature is controlled.

Another concern is insurance. Ask if insurance is provided. She needs to have her valuables covered from fire, damages and theft. Many facilities do not provide insurance for items so tenants will need to obtain a policy on your own.

These are just a few of the many questions she asked when searching for self storage buildings for a unit to store her belongings. Most buildings are safe, secure and offer controlled options to help her clear out the clutter and enjoy her familys extended visit.

It pays to do your homework when checking out self storage facilities in which to store your valuable items. Though the industry itself is reputable and highly regarded for the service that it provides consumers, there is a bad, bruised banana in every bunch, so to speak. Self storage facilities are intended for use by people from all walks of life and for many different purposes. Whether you are moving to a smaller location or you need space to store a vehicle, there is plenty of indoor space available for a fee. But before you settle on the first company that you see, do your due diligence to make certain that company is going to meet your needs and live up to your standards of quality.

Upon entering the lobby or office of one of these establishments, you should be warmly greeted in a friendly tone. It is said that customer service is king. If that is true, than you are no less than royalty in the eyes of the owners and managers of self storage facilities and you should be highly regarded. After all, with over 52 thousand self storage facilities in the United States alone, you could very easily take your esteemed business elsewhere, now, could you not?

Ask questions about rate plans and unit sizes. Is the person at the desk being forthright and informative? Or do you feel like they would rather be watching the baseball game on the television in the back room? Are they smiling? Do you feel like a valued customer whose business is appreciated? These social cues are important for most people. When we feel honored and valued, we are more likely to want to do business with that organization for the sheer fact that they have great taste!

It is wise to tour several of the units, and even several different sized units, of the company locations that you are considering. Check for consistency in the cleanliness of the units. They should all be swept and free of dust, mold, cobwebs, spiders and insects of all kinds. If you see rodent droppings at any time, then go store somewhere else. Also, if you happen to see store bought rat traps or insect traps sitting in the corners of the units or in the hallways, do not assume that the company is being proactive in their pest control. On the contrary, assume that there is a problem that they are trying weakly to rid themselves of. Do not take chances when it comes to your belongings.

If security measures are important to you, then ask about the methods that the company employs to insure the safety of your items. Some companies have gated keyless entryways, while others have security cameras and closed circuit television. Still other companies offer in-unit security alarms. There are many options available for you when it comes to security. Take your time and choose well.

When the service, atmosphere, security and price all sound right to you, then and only then should you sign on the dotted line once all of your questions have been thoroughly answered. Read the fine print, get a copy of your lease agreement, and store it in a safe place. When it comes to choosing self storage facilities , choose well and honor your choice. Chances are that with just a bit of legwork and some focused observation, you will be rewarded with a clean, secure and trustworthy solution.

Dude, where is my car? The only person that would know the answer to that question would be you. Some of you have heard this phrase in a movie or have heard it as part of a joke from your friends. However, some people really have this problem. Where can they put their car if they go somewhere in which they can not leave their car at home.

Car storage is an option for people who have to store their car somewhere other than their house. There are different reasons some people will need to use car storage . One reason is for those people who go overseas and they do not have a place for their car. Another reason people use a facility to house their car is because they have a job that requires them to use a company vehicle. They then store their car in a facility until they can swap it out and store their company vehicle. Another reason people use car storage is when they move to an area that only has room for one car instead of three like their home once had. They will have to place their other cars in a garage or find a way to sell them.

No matter what the reason people use a storing facility to place their cars, there are some rules that most facilities have you follow.

• The car has to be functional
• The car can not be falling apart cosmetically, because most storing is done outside for people to view. They do not want their facility to appear as a junk yard.
• The car has to be as low on gas as possible in order for you to drive in and out. Most facilities do not want the risk of a car with a full tank of gas exploding.
• There is to be absolutely no work done on the car while in the storing place.
• You can not change the cars oil or paint the car. This could leave to staining the ground or the space. The facility wants to keep everything nice and clean.

Above are the rules that most places have. Some facilities will not allow you to have a car that is stored inside of a building. The only place they allow you to park is outside in a parking spot. Some people do not like that option because you are susceptible to Mother Nature.

Some facilities allow you to park inside of a space, but that option is usually more expensive. Also, the space has to be a drive up unit and not an interior space, as in down a hallway. Logically it is not possible to drive a car down the hallway of a building but still we have to mention it because people think they can drive their motorcycle inside.

The smallest space that you could use for a car is a 10×20 space. Now if you have a very compact car you might be able to place it inside a 10×15 space but it is not recommended. Be smart. If you have to put your car inside of a space, go for one that is big enough to not damage the car when pulling out or going in.

To find car storage in your area, just look online and search for it. Not all places in your area will allow car storage . If your vehicle is that important, you will want someone who specializes in that service and use them.

Oh, what a great day for a garage sale. The sun is shining and there is a subtle breeze coming in from the west. The local news team said that it would be rainy and over cast the whole day, but luckily they were incorrect as always.

Of course staying up till 12 the night before only to awaken the next day at five oclock in the morning is always fun. Making sure that you have everything in the garage sale that you wanted to have sold can be exhausting. In the back of your mind all you are thinking about is the more you sell, the less of a storage space you will need to pay for.

As you crawl out of bed, your head is filled with the happiness hopping that all the big ticket items you put out there for viewing leave your driveway. You open your garage and see that you are putting out two kitchen tables, a sleeper sofa, a riding lawn mower, a digital video disc wall unit, and some computer parts that all need to go in order to make waking up so early worth it. Also, with those items gone, your storage space will be small because all that is left is just odds and ends along with boxes.

As you drive around and put up flyers announcing your blockbuster garage sale to the neighborhood, you observe the cloud formations that are circling your community. The reports did say that it was supposed to rain the whole time your sale is supposed to be on. The wind looks like it is on your side as it is pushing the clouds to your south. You rush to the bank realizing that you should have went the night before to get some money and change for the many people that will need change after they purchase your what-nots.

Your driveway is packed with the things that you are willing to part with and now you are just waiting for people to come by and relieve you of those things. Time passes and no one has yet to show up. You look at your watch and it has only been ten minutes. You need to chill out. You take a look up and down your street. A normally busy street is as quite as the nearby park. You pray that soon someone will show up to your driveway sales bash or you have just wasted a perfectly great morning to sleep in.

Finally someone shows up and you are filled with joy. You jump up off of the sleeper sofa that you had been resting on and you stand at ease waiting for the first people to make their decisions. Just as one person shows up other cars passing by slow down to park, ready to gaze through your things.

As different people are walking around your garage, which was once used for the storage of the items spread out along the perimeter of your driveway, you overhear different conversation judging the different items that are for sale. Some comments are nice while others are not so nice, but hey, not all people are going to like every single piece that you have for them to buy. Some are gazing at that cheap sleeper sofa that they do not need at this present time, but could put it in storage until they are in need of it. But they decide to pass on it.

Hours pass, and you see many people wishing to view your items, but little people who want to purchase. As the rains come, it is time to place everything that is left back in its storage place until the next time you wish to have them viewed. As of now, you put finding a storage space on hold to see how you fair in a couple of weeks. Maybe next time you will put an ad in the paper instead of advertising on the day of. Maybe more people will come to see what treasures they might soon posses.

A self storage unit is not the same at every facility. In fact, there are many different types of spaces available to the average consumer. You can have a space that is climate controlled, portable, or what most call regular spaces.

When you are talking about a self storage unit that is climate controlled, you are speaking about a space that the temperature is kept constant. Most spaces keep the temperature between 60 degrees and 80 degrees. You can use this type of space if have belongings that are sensitive enough not to be placed in your garage. Many people prefer this type of space because they feel like their items are with them at their house because of the temperature adjustments that can be made. Climate controlled spaces give the customers a peace of mind that no matter the weather conditions outside, their belongings will be safe from the elements. Also, usually this type of space is located within the facility and there is no access to the outside. This limits any kind of vermin to enter their space and chew on their furniture. One downfall to that is that you might have a facility that does not have space down their aisles to bring large pieces into the building. If you find the right facility, you could spend less money on this space than a regular type.

Another type of self storage unit is the spaces that are portable. This type of space gives you the convenience of having the space come to your house to load. The unit can be left there at your house until you are ready to have it picked up. It is very convenient for you because you might not be able to get to load the space today, but now it is at your house and you load it first thing the next day. This type of space was created to replace renting a truck and having to bring your items to the facility. This alleviates you having to pack and unpack your belongings more than one time. You can put your items in that portable space, the company comes to pick up that space and they put it in a warehouse that is monitored by security and climate controlled. One of few downfalls to this type of space is that most of the time, your space will not be accessible to you. They usually place your space on top of another space. If you needed something out of this space, you would have to call ahead to see if they could get your space down for you to access.

The last type of self storage unit is the regular type. This is the most common, inexpensive that most people end up renting. Most people feel they need to access their belongings more than a couple of times a week. This self storage unit would fit you well because it usually has a big roll up door that allows easy access. You place some sort of lock on the unit, in order to ensure that your items can be safe from intruders. This space is the first space to sell out because it is also the cheapest of the spaces. Every now and then you will find that the type of spaces above can be less expensive, but that is because they are usually left unfilled and the facility needs to drop the prices to sell them. If you do not mind that your belongings can be exposed to the extremes of heat or cold, or they could be susceptible to insect and other type of creepy crawlies, then a regular space will be good.

No matter what self storage unit you choose for yourself, there are some things that make one space enticing than the next one. You have to know what you want and what you expect from these spaces. Know what you are trying to store and put your belongings in the right space.

The bigger, the better is a commonly held notion on our planet. It seems that we are each on a quest to satiate lifes hunger for more. In an attempt to satisfy this need, things are bought and collections are acquired. Boats, bikes and cars are bought. Huge, walking, talking, spinning, robotic toys are purchased for our kids, who seem to understand from an early age that getting a big, shiny, new toy is better than playing with one that they already have. Yes, having stuff is great, until it falls onto your head from an overcrowded closet shelf. Being able to buy stuff is amazing, until the day comes when you stand in awe at the mass of objects that you have accumulated and say, No More! But what do you do with it all? Where will box after box of stuffed animals, dinner plates, Christmas ornaments and that unused stationary bike go?

It is then that a new quest has begun. This is the quest for self storage units to hold all of your clutter and overflow. Before you find yourself falling into that old pattern of bigger is better, as you go out to rent some self storage units that are as big as your garage and then some, do a little homework to determine what size you really need. In the storing business, size does matter, but bigger is not always better.

There are many sizes available for self storage units . If you have a relatively small amount of stuff to store, 25 sq. ft., or about the size of a hall closet, should suffice. This space will hold small pieces of furniture, such as a chest of drawers or TV stand, a twin size mattress and box spring, and several boxes. It might even hold that unused fish aquarium that has been collecting dust for a year and a half.

If you have a bit more stuff to store, you might choose a 50 sq. ft. space, which is roughly the size of a standard walk in closet. With some organization, these self storage units can hold the contents of a small one bedroom apartment.

You need to go bigger? No problem. Self storage units come in sizes varied enough to meet all of your space saving requirements. Perhaps a 75 sq. ft. space would be more effective. This area is roughly the size of a large walk in closet, like the one in the house that you wish now that you had purchased so you would be able to hold all of your seasonal clothing. These self storage units hold the contents of a standard one bedroom apartment, perhaps a motorcycle or the hockey sticks and goalie net that surely your sons used more than twice.

Still not enough room for all of your things? Then step up to a 100sq.ft. unit, and you will have a space as big as an average sized bedroom to catch and store all of the things you do not want to trip over anymore. This unit will actually hold the contents of a one or two bedroom apartment, including appliances and several miscellaneous boxes.

If you are needing to store a vehicle, such as a car or small boat, some dune buggies, or the contents of a two to three bedroom apartment, you might want to opt for a 150 sq. ft. unit. There should be plenty of room in there, as well, to hold your massive collection of rock albums.

Still not enough room? No worries. If you are packing up an entire 3 or 4 bedroom house worth of contents, there are units to fit your need. Imagine a space as large as a single car garage, approximately 200 to 250 sq. ft. There is plenty of room for stacking, arranging, and even making a path through there for easy access to the old claw foot bathtub that you got from your mother that you swore you would turn into a beautiful garden planter one day.

If you need more room than that, bigger is absolutely better. There are some self storage units that span 300 sq. ft. This space holds the contents of an entire three to four bedroom house, and is as big as one of those extra long garages, like the one in that other house with the big walk in closet that you wish now that you would have bought.

With all of these size options, does not it make it much easier to get out there and clean your garage?

If you take a drive around the downtown areas of most major cities, you most likely will see cars parked in the backyard or in the driveways that do not function. These are cars that once were able to transport their owners from point A to point B without any troubles. Now they are a former shell of what they used to be. Back in their glory, those cars used to have their owners flaunt them around to show their rides off to their friends, attempting to gain status in their circles. Now they are just collecting dust, rodents and rust.

Why do people just leave their cars to die like that? Most people cannot afford to have their car towed to a place to get rid of it or place it somewhere for the time being. Maybe most people can afford it, they just do not want to put more time and money into that car. Maybe if they invested more time and money into the care when it was running, they would not have to worry about it taking up space on their property.

Not everyone with cars sitting on the property, have it sitting there because they want to get rid of it. Some people have hobbies trying to restore older vehicles. They put their extra time and money into these seasoned beasts to one day restore them to their old glory. Most people who restore these classic vehicles place them in their garages for safekeeping until they can work on them. Not everyone has the option of having a garage or having enough space in their garage. That is why some people turn to Automobile Storage to keep their priceless treasure safe until they can get it up and running.

Of course, there are other reasons to use Automobile Storage than just what you have heard above. For those people in armed services that do not wish to have their car broken into or stolen, they place it in Automobile Storage . They can then rely on the facilities great security and other amenities to keep their property safe. They would not want to return from war and see that their car has been vandalized.

When it comes to Automobile Storage , you do not just pay your monthly bill and put your car into the space. Most facilities have criteria that you must meet in order to store your vehicle in their building. Some facilities ask that the vehicle be in full working order and is not filled with gas when you store it. This prevents people from storing their vehicle that is not worth a penny and leaving it there for the property manager to deal with. Some facilities say that you have to park it in a parking space designated for Automobile Storage . Do not worry though. Most facilities have a gate in which anyone attempting to steal your vehicle would have to get through in order to take it from the property. So, before you are ready to store your vehicle, make sure that you completely understand what is required of you.

As you see, you have an option to put your vehicle somewhere other than your driveway or garage. You can now use those spaces for you own personal uses and put your vehicle into a rental facility.

A self storage facility often offers customers a discount or a special price when they become a tenant. This enticement has become almost commonplace in the industry, particularly during the off season. The owner of a company may lose a few dollars up front, but they will almost certainly make up for it in the long run. Offering some type of a special discounted price to their new customers works well for many different reasons.

Reason number one is that people are always looking for a deal. It does not matter if they are shopping for a cell phone plan or a new car or clothing for their children. Words like, sale, discount and coupon attract attention. And of course a shopper looking for a self storage facility is no exception. Even if they are only saving ten percent per month or getting fifty dollars off of their rent for a month or are given free moving supplies, a shopper thinks a bargain is still a bargain. If there are two comparable locations nearby, the customer will usually go with the one offering some type of an incentive.

Reason number two is that tenants usually are only planning on renting a unit for a few months, and think they will be out before the special ends. Of course the owners in this industry have learned over the years that oftentimes people become very enamored with this extra space they now have, and choose to rent on indefinitely. And so these tenants continue to rent a space much longer than they had originally planned, much to the delight of the owner of the self storage facility.

And reason three of course is that word of mouth is the best advertisement around. There is no substitute for it. A renter that may only be fairly pleased with the service or the problematic location or the lousy gate hours will still brag about the great deal that they found. And truly happy tenants will tell all of their friends and family about the great special they received from this particular self storage facility. A company cannot purchase this kind of advertisement, for any amount of money.

Different companies offer different specials and discounts. But there are three particular groups of people that most locations always give some type of a discount to. These people include students, senior citizens, and military personnel.

Many offer a discounted rate to students. This is a group of people that may only rent for a short stint originally, but they are just beginning their American nomadic type of life. As an adult, these students will oftentimes remember the discount they were giving back when they were struggling and broke.

Senior citizens are usually also given a discounted rate for their rental unit. Owners are human, and have parents and grandparents like everyone else. Giving this group of people a discounted rate is simply the right thing to do.

Most facilities also offer a discount to military personnel. This is a group of people that truly live a mobile lifestyle, all the while serving our country. Whether the tenant is being deployed overseas, or is the spouse waiting on a loved one to come home, a self storage facility owner is able to show their appreciation and their thanks by giving members of the military family to rent a unit at a discounted rate.

Presentation is everything. Well, not everything but pretty darn close to it. When you walk into a mall that you have never been in before or a fair or carnival, what attracts you to one of the stores or stands displayed? Although looks are not everything, it is what typically first attracts the eye. When you see a store front displayed that attracts your attention, it is probably colorfully designed or aesthetically pleasing to the eye that makes you want to walk into the store or to check out the display to see what else it has to offer, right?

It may not even be something that you are looking to purchase at that moment, however if the display or store front is so attractive that you are lured into the store, you may find yourself buying something that you were not expecting to before you actually got there. The same is goes for storage. Although some may think that storage is just storage, it still has to be attractive to the eye. If you drive by a storage facility that looks like it has not had a new paint job in about 20 years, your first thought is probably that you do not see your items as being safe at that property or well maintained. What could you expect as far as the cleanliness inside of the unit or the rodents that may be harboring inside of it? Now if you drive by a storage facility that it colorful, clean and well maintained you may want to go inside to see what the store has to offer. For those customers that do come into the storage lobby you want to make sure that the inside is just as pleasing to the eye as the outside is. Again the products inside of your lobby should be well balanced and able to showcase all of the different items that it is offered.

Think about when you are checking out at the grocery store and the last items you have a chance to purchase are on the display at the check out counter. They are usually very small items where there can be many different items displayed but also within hands reach. Did you notice that many of those items are also very handy and could conveniently fit into your purse or car? Little packages of napkins, diaper wipes, candy bars, sodas, lighters, air fresheners and many other little travel size items that are very inexpensive to purchase.

The store display can make your storage products sell or they can hurt your sales. Your storage facility may be in need for a change so take a good look around. Walk into the lobbys front door as if you were a customer and without trying to look around too much. See if your storage products are easily noticeable or not. Put yourself in your customers shoes. Are products easily visible or would your customers need to literally go down each isle to see what your store offers?

As a walk-in customer you should be able to spot key items that would be extremely beneficial to the customer so that they purchase those items. Prices of those storage items should also be visible in case you are assisting other customers. If the prices are available they can decide on which and how many boxes they want to purchase so by the time they get to the front counter and you are able to help them it will make the process much quicker.

No matter where you look, you can find self storage anywhere. You can find self storage facilities in your area, by searching on the Internet, in the newspaper, or through word of mouth. When you look for self storage, you can find a lot of great offers and some great looking facilities. You have to be sure you are getting what you are bargaining for.

When you are trying to find self storage online, you can go to many different places. You can go to the biggest search engines or to a niche search engine for self storage. Most websites you visit will either send you directly to an actual self storage facility. When you are trying to find self storage, you most of the time, need to search by your zip code or state. This will allow you to see all the different facilities that are in your area. The Internet is very biased when it comes to searches. When trying to find self storage facilities through search engines, you will always get the website that has been hit the most. Of course, most self storage facilities use all kinds of advertising to get their name out there and first on many search engines.

If you take the time to use the different search engines to find self storage you will usually see the same results first. If you try to find self storage on a large search engine, the first three websites it brings up are three large corporations of self storage. Therefore, as you seem to think the site will help you find self storage only one website is an actual storage company. When you try to find self storage on a smaller search enging, the first three results are varied a little bit. Once again, you see one self storage facility and two search or service websites. Lastly, what do you think you will see if you try to find self storage on a self storage search enging? You will see storage facilities who have registered with that search engine. So which one do you use?

If you turn to the paper to find self storage, you will see only those who have the money to advertise. At that point, are you paying more a month because the facility needs to pay for their ad in the paper? It is very possible. At that time, you can still take the time to use the Internet as your asset to help you search for some information on the self storage facility you saw in the paper.

The one way to find self storage that many people like is word of mouth. Even though many people have the respect of their friends opinions, they do not often talk about self storage as they are watching their favorite football game, or small talk around the office. People do not talk that much about how they found a great value in a storage facility.

When you are trying to find self storage, you have a couple of different avenues to search. The most impactful, most people believe is word of mouth, but self storage is not spoken about often. Use the Internet and maybe the newspaper to be able to find self storage. Thoroughly look at each facility as much as you can until you the one that fits your need.

Climate Controlled Self Storage is growing by leaps and bounds. Not too long ago the only option you had in self storage was car garage type units or interior units with a regular door. Now, a lot of storage facilities are incorporating climate controlled units. Some facilities only have climate controlled units. Others, have a mixture of both. The climate controlled change now allows storage customers the option of regular storage, heated, air conditioned or year round temperature options.

When some customers call for storage, they specifically ask for climate controlled units only. Others have no idea what climate controlled units are or what items you store should go into them. We gladly go through the items that should be put in climate controlled self storage. That gives them the option to put their items in there or take the few items with them when they move. Sometimes the difference in pricing for climate controlled self storage or regular self storage determines which unit the customer will choose.

When some customers call and are not sure of the unit size they need we ask what items they are putting into self storage. When they mention an item or items that do require climate controlled self storage then we advise that is where they should put them. The price of climate control versus the cost on regular storage units usually determines where they will put their items. Sometimes customers who store sensitive items refuse climate controlled self storage. They do that because regular self storage is all they are used to and that is what they choose. They will state they stored those items in regular storage before and nothing has happened to their items. Even though some customer refuse to store in climate controlled self storage we still go through the list of items that should go in there.

The items that a customer puts into storage that we recommend for climate controlled self storage are as follows.

• Leather or suede furniture.
• Antiques.
• Photographs and paintings.
• CDs and DVDs.
• Computers, TVs, stereos, appliances and anything else that is electronic.
• Believe it or not, furs need climate control too.
• Items made of certain glass also need to be stored in climate controlled self storage.

Anytime a customer says that they are storing any of these items, we recommend climate controlled units. A lady called in yesterday that wanted a storage unit. When she was asked if she needed climate control or a regular unit she asked what the difference was. We told her. She was surprised and said that she had a micro-suede sofa and leather recliners and since we told her that she would probably needed climate control she thanked me and said that she had called a couple other facilities and nobody mentioned that. She was advised that the facilities probably did not have climate controlled self storage and therefore did not mention it. She reserved the unit. A man called from Florida looking to store some clothing. Turns out, he had to get a climate controlled self storage unit because he had some heavy leather coats in there and he was worried about moisture getting to his coats. He was very grateful that we mentioned climate control.

Nowadays most self storage facilities offer a lot of other items and services to their customers and the general public than just plain old storage. Self storage facilities have become a one stop shop for anyone in need of moving and storage supplies, shipping and packing services, and copying and faxing services.

Large assortments of cardboard boxes are available for purchase at many self storage facilities. These well constructed containers are a must have whether someone is putting things away in an attic or moving across country or stowing treasures in a storage unit.

Little boxes are ideal for storing books and other small but weighty items. Even though a large amount of these heavy things will fit okay in larger boxes, they will be too heavy for most people to pick up.

The medium boxes sold at self storage facilities work great for packing dishes, drinking glasses, and other things that need to be wrapped in some sort of protective material. Cartons specifically designed for kitchenware items such as dishes and fine china are also available at many self storage facilities.

Large cardboard boxes can be purchased at most self storage facilities to pack bigger, delicate items that need a lot of TLC. Everyone needs to remember to clearly mark these cartons FRAGILE, to help assure safe handling.

Then of course there are the wardrobe boxes that can be bought at many self storage facilities. These boxes stand tall and have a bar going across the top to hang clothing, alleviating the worry of wrinkles. Many self storage facilities also sell suit and dress bags for the frequent traveler.

Boxes tend to get crushed if they are not completely full. It is important to fill any empty space with bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Tape and tape dispensers are other necessities when it comes to packing. And not only do the items inside of the box need to be secure, but the person opening them down the road needs to have some idea of what to expect. That is why self storage facilities sell all of these materials, as well as markers and labels to tag each box. Utility knives to later open the boxes are available, too.

Self storage facilities sell many things predominantly for customers renting a self storage unit. This home away from home holds things that are obviously important to someone, or they would have simply discarded it in the trash instead of paying a storage rental fee.

There is a large selection of door locks on the market, ranging from lower priced basic ones to the cylinder and disc locks. It is very important that customers of self storage facilities have the peace of mind that their particular unit is safe and sound.

People can buy a variety of sizes of mattress covers to keep the dampness out and to protect them from tears and dings. There is also moisture absorbent material available that can be put next to next to materials sensitive to dampness and humidity.

Many self storage facilities offer a wide array of other services besides just moving and storage supplies. Numerous self storage facilities are also pick-up locations for popular delivery services. Plus, there are mailboxes available for rent, in sizes ranging from simple slots to ones having the capacity to hold large boxes.

And keeping inline with the whole business theme, many self storage facilities provide the ability for copying, printing, and faxing. This is ideal for the small business person that does not have these services otherwise available to them.

Self storage facilities have become a convenient place for busy people on the go. Not only are customers able to rent a self storage unit, but there are a myriad of other services and products available these days at most self storage facilities.

March is here and we start to see a slight change in the self storage business. We are still in the midst of winter, yet spring is approaching fast. The college students are not quite ready for the need and use of the self storage business. None the less, they are also are calling about storage. Who else at this time of year is looking to rent storage maybe a bit more frequently than during other times of the year? Businesses are always in the need throughout the year. And those seldom movers who are relocating due to a transfer at their current place of employment are also on the hunt for storage. Then there are the movers who for whatever their situations are at their present home address who just are not working out for a possibility of various reasons are also on the hunt for storage year around. Whether it is due to a divorce, an eviction, roommates not getting along, or families who experience a change in pay, all of these people might need storage.

Right now it seems that we are starting to see the spring cleaners in need of service from a self storage business. Cleaning out the clutter and reorganizing their home is a spring task. It seems a little early for it, but the incoming calls are showing a slight increase and need for more space and thanks to the self storage business, they are able to rent a unit and start this well needed task.

Depending on what state your self storage business establishments are located in, in-coming calls will vary in the amount of calls that you will actually receive at this time of year. If you are interested in and make it a yearly ritual to advertise your self storage business for specific seasons or specific trends then right now would be the perfect time to start advertising your self storage business. Now would be perfect to advertise for a spring cleaning special.

Of course if your self storage business is located in warmer regions then you should fare pretty well with this type of seasonal, promotional special. Other regions where the weather may not be so great could also see an increased need for storage. There will always be someone no matter what region they are in that it will not matter to.

So think of a spring cleaning special that you can advertise and be creative with. Also, you want to make sure that you advertise in all areas such as mailings, or newspaper advertisements. Even the internet is a great place to advertise since it seems that the internet is a highly popular place to advertise your self storage business. If you do not have a web page for your business, you may seriously want to think about getting one. The cost will pay for itself by the increased number of rentals you receive.

For those in the self storage business that do not show an increase after you have advertised for a cleaning special your first year, then you know not to bother with it again in the following years. But for now, go out on a limb and find different times of the year to advertise for such specials to help your self storage business increase sales throughout the year. You could hit the jack pot of new rental inquiries. You just have to find what works and what does not.

Self storage facilities have many different sizes of units because there is vast array of purposes for people needing to rent storage. The five by ten (5×10) self storage unit is one of the most popular sizes. It works well because of its length, but lesser price than that of a larger self storage unit.

A 5×10 self storage unit is very well-liked among homeowners that are getting ready to put their house on the market. Real estate agents encourage everyone in this situation to declutter their home, to remove all of the unnecessary boxes and things piling up in closets and attics. Most neighbors are not interested in storing these items while their friends are trying to make their house look more appealing to buyers. That is why a 5×10 self storage unit works just perfect. The dimensions of this size of a self storage unit is long enough to accommodate that extra bed in the guest room and the eight foot ceiling is tall enough to stack those containers of Christmas items upwards.

The 5×10 self storage unit is coveted by college students going home for the summer. They oftentimes line up outside a storage facilitys office during the last week of spring semester, hoping to get a 5×10 self storage unit for the summer months. The students usually have some furniture and boxes that they (and their parents!) have no interest in carting all of the way home for the summer break, only to turn around and haul it all back to town three months later. The 5×10 self storage unit works well because it is big enough to hold all of their things, but cheap enough that they do not have to share the self storage unit with anyone else.

A 5×10 self storage unit is perfect for someone needing to park a motorcycle. Some people use the self storage unit to park the bike over the winter months, while others live in a nearby apartment complex that only allows parking for one vehicle. Since the car gets the lone parking spot, the motorcycle gets moved to the self storage unit. And this size of a self storage unit is also popular with other outdoor enthusiasts for similar reasons. Snowmobiles are parked in a self storage unit in mountainous regions, and surfboards are put away in coastal areas.

Many businesses need to keep files and records for years and years. Renting a larger office to accommodate this need can be very expensive. Renting a 5×10 self storage unit with the eight or ten foot ceiling can be very economical, for small and large companies alike.

One particular industry that is very familiar with the 5×10 self storage unit is the pharmaceutical industry. Their representatives basically work from home and have a large assortment of samples and displays they need to store. Spouses tend to get tired of seeing these items accumulate in the basement or the garage, so a self storage unit is the perfect solution.

Customers that have started using a 5×10 self storage unit in recent years are people that buy and sell on Online auctions. They use the self storage unit kind of like a clearinghouse as they sort through all of the goods that have been found at garage sales and flea markets.

The main reason that the 5×10 is such a popular size of a self storage unit is because of its versatility, and therefore its usefulness to a wide variety of customers.

When in need for a storage unit there should be some guidelines that you should go by to make sure that the facilities you are researching are the right facilities for you. Moving, packing, finding, researching and renting self storage can be a very hectic process, but if these guidelines are followed, finding self storage will be made very simple.

The first thing that needs to be done when finding self storage is to estimate how much you would be storing. Making a list of everything that you plan to store will not only help the store associate find an adequate size for you, but it will also give you an idea how much you have. This way you can get rid of anything you do not need.

The second step to assist you in finding self storage is to plan ahead. Have a date in mind that you would like to start moving your items, and give yourself at least two weeks to make the necessary preparations. Also, set a date that the items will have to be out of their current location and placed in a self storage unit. It is recommended that you mark these dates down on a calendar.

Then, determine how you will get your items to the self storage facility and what items you will need to pack. Lots of self storage facilities have boxes, bubble wrap, tape, shrink wrap, and more to help you with your packing. The facility may also have a truck that can be used for a discounted rate. Make sure you estimate the mileage from the facility to the location. This is where convenience plays a large role in finding self storage. The farther the storage unit, the more it will cost to transport your items.

Next, find self storage. By this, it is meant to actually start the search for self storage units in your area, or the area that you will be moving. Like it was mentioned earlier, start this process at least two weeks in advance. Websites, phonebooks, or just driving around can all be excellent resources when finding a self storage unit. In order to find a self storage facility that best suites your needs, there are several things that you should look for. The most important is security. Regardless of where on earth you store your belongings it is important that they are safe and secure. Some people may say that the security features at stores are not worth paying for, but in reality if you care enough to pay for a storage unit, you will care if your items were damaged. Finding self storage can be easy if you take the time and make a plan.

When finding self storage, websites may provide prices, pictures, and security amenities that are essential in the moving process. Phonebooks may paint a small picture of what exactly their facility encompasses, so it is imperative to call these places first and ask about their amenities and security features. By driving by the location you will have the opportunity to see the facility and the different sizes offered first hand. The phonebook is another option to help you when finding self storage, but it is not as reliable as the other stores. In conclusion, finding self storage is a difficult task, however if you follow these simple steps finding self storage will be easy as pie.

When someone needs self storage they expect to find secure, convenient storage at a reasonable cost. After having worked for this company for the past five years, it is interesting to watch the self storage industry grow in leaps and bounds in technology and the variety in which storage is offered. From wine self storage to recreational vehicles there seems to be a niche for any type of storage in the market today. Consumers are much savvier these days and with the growth of the industry added competition as well. As the housing boom increased so did the self storage market to keep up with the demand. Unfortunately the boom went bust and now there are some markets that are saturated with storage facilities increasing the competition even more.

So how do we compete without giving away the store? It seems anymore when someone calls for self storage on the phone explaining features and benefits their attention is lost because it sounds like they are listening to a broken record. Most all self storage facilities these days offer a certain level a security so it is almost a given and the self storage consumers have come to expect that. When you go buy a car and you are sitting in the salespersons office and discussing the price you expect that the selling price would include things like an engine, a steering wheel, tires etc. This is a given when buying a car. It is the same for a self-storage seeker to expect a certain level of offerings.

Maybe we need to rethink the way we approach selling our self storage facilities to our prospects since what use to work no longer does or has become so watered down it is no longer as effective. A big trend now is specials, specials, specials which in and of itself is not a problem but the larger risk is conditioning consumers to expect, no even demand, some type of discount every time. It seems like every other call taken, the first thing out of the callers mouth is, what are your specials? For the brand new self storage facility that has such high initial operating costs, depreciation not withstanding, they cannot afford to give a free months rent. Even older properties that have already recouped their opening expenses and the building and property are paid for can have a hard time offering discounts say due to having high occupancy rates. What we have been witnessing here at our company call center seems to be the battle of the specials between companies we answer for especially in larger metro areas.

Specials are a great way to secure potential self storage customers and help reduce their initial out of pocket expenses especially for price shoppers, just do not use this as a primary way to sell your property. If you have great state of the art security equipment certainly sell all that but find something to sell that will set you apart from the competition. If you have great locations, emphasize that. If you have an all climate controlled self storage facility, emphasize that. One feature that is used to sell a property and differentiate from the others when possible is having lights in the self storage units. Can you imagine trying to unload your three-bedroom house in to a self storage unit and not be able to see what you are doing? Find a feature that is semi exclusive to your property such as lights in the units and sell it, sell it, sell it.

Let us not discount specials entirely as they do have a purpose and a benefit for both customer and self storage operator. One thing our company likes to use specials for is a trump card when the customer is sitting on the fence. Sometimes it just takes that little push to get the customer to commit. Customers that are looking for permanent or long term self storage need the discounts the most and prepaid specials for six months to a year really benefit the customer. This ensures your occupancy rate is full and less hassles collecting payments and charging late fees. Okay, all you self storage marketing pros push the envelope and develop new methods to sell with less reliance on using specials. Remember, we all prefer to explain the quality than have to justify the price now that is special.

Talk about some weird stories about self storage, just search the Internet and you will have plenty of wacko stories. In the history of self storage there are always a few of those stories that you do not know whether to believe or not. Could they be an urban legend or do these things really happen to people. Here are just a few stories that I found about self storage while doing a search on the Internet the other day.

A man was arrested after being served a search warrant regarding the large of amount of women’s shoes that were found in his apartment. The man had a history of keeping hundreds and hundreds of high heeled shoes in his apartment and in a rented self storage unit.

While robbing an interior self storage unit, a man was choked to death after his head became lodged in between the ceiling and the wall of the unit.

A homeless man was accused of stealing some merchandise and during the interrogation, he said that he spends his money on a gym membership, a $200 a month storage unit, a mailbox, and a cell phone. He has a job but sleeps outside because in the area that he works in you cannot find any housing or apartments to rent within his budget.

The other continuing sad story about the self storage business is that some people find themselves not being able to pay their monthly rental fee. When you start a self storage lease with a self storage company you will have to sign some legal documents saying that you will pay your self storage rent and pay it on time. Many self storage owners and property managers have big hearts but it comes down to business and if you cannot pay your self storage rent then you put the self storage owners in a position to reclaim their loss of revenue from your self storage unit.

No one wants to sell the items out of someone’s self storage unit, but many property managers and self storage owners are forced to do such a thing. The only advice is to not fall behind in your self storage rent, ask friends or family member to help you till the next pay period. If you see that in the future you will not have enough money to rent your current self storage unit, find someplace for the stuff in your self storage unit. Most self storage companies go on a month to month lease and if are current in your rent than with notice you can move your items out. Do not fall behind on your self storage rent and make the self storage company pursue eviction; it is not fun for anyone.

Read the fine print and remember that the self storage business is like any business; they provide a service for a cost. The self storage owners and property managers are not out to get anyone, they are trying to make a living themselves and provide good customer service.

I saw a funny but true commercial today. It showed a family rummaging through all their clutter looking for their New Years Resolutions list. They hunt and hunt through closest and the garage and all over the house. Finally the dad finds the list in a box in the garage in a pile of paperwork. The list has four items on it and when the husband yells that he found the list the wife walks in and says, we could move organizing to number one. Then the commercial goes to a large home store that promises to have all of the items you would need for organizing your home.

Many find themselves ready to make their lives better at the first of the New Year. One of your New Year’s Resolutions might be to be more organized in your home. There are even several shows on television right now that help ordinary people organize their lives. And poof, their homes are organized. What I would like to see is 6 months down the road and if the family is still organized. All of their items, boxed, labeled, stored, decluttered, crated and put in storage bins. Some families might even consider self storage or climate controlled storage for helping with the overflow of extra items in the home. Extra storage in your home or at a self storage facility can be space you are looking for to get organized in 2008.

Here is another StorageMart Build It Green Design Challenge Judge.

Please welcome Mr. Phillip Allan, President of Apple Self Storage. Phil is a very busy self storage owner along with his brothers Scott and Jeff. Apple self storage opened their first location of 4th generation self storage starting in 1999. Currently Apple self storage has grown to 12 locations with almost a million feet of storage space. Apple self storage companies are located throughout Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Starting this year they have divested itself of a number is its locations and has since re-started the growth with a number of new starts and purchases.

The Apple model is to either build from greenfields, create quality product from conversions or straight up acquisitions. Modern technology and maintaining strong vendor and staff relationships has created a wonderful environment from which Apple is basing the future. Apple also is aware of their responsibility to decrease its carbon footprint and to act responsibly in new and acquired facilities.

Cheers, from Phil.
