Signs Of A Great Yacht Storage Facility

  • While smaller boats are quite frequently stored at a self storage facility, yacht storage presents an interesting problem to the boating enthusiast. Too large for most storage facilities, yet sometimes too small for the conventional harbor storage, you might find that it is hard to find just the right place where you can keep your yacht during the off-season.

Generally speaking, if your main harbor turns away your yacht because of size concerns, contact the smaller harbors along the coast. The odds are good that many of those cater specifically to the yachting customer. Similarly, yacht clubs will frequently offer preferential rates for members, thus making it well worth your while to join such an outfit.

Signs of a great yacht storage facility are sometimes easy to overlook or take for granted, until you are faced with a harbor that is sorely lacking in this regard:

    1. The storage docks should be safe and secured.

    2. Boat access needs to be monitored closely.

    3. Additional storage for gadgets, supplies, chemicals and other items pertaining to your yacht should be available on the premises at little or no additional cost.

    4. An onsite management team should be available at all times to answer questions, permit access to your yacht by authorized personnel, and to ensure the overall security of the operation.

    5. The contract should clearly and unequivocally spell out the responsibilities of the parties, insurance needs, and also limitations of liability.

    6. Last but not least, a quick check with the local Better Business Bureau should be the final step in making sure your yacht storage facility does everything you hope for.
