Self Service Storing Reduces Manpower
-
In the days gone by, when the concept of self service storage did not exist, the storing firms would encapsulate the process of storing from the renter. The renter had to just take his belongings to the premises of the firm and hand them over to the caretaker who would perform the tasks of selecting an appropriate storing area and placing the items in that area. A receipt would be generated manually for the payments made. But nowadays the scene has changed. Manpower has become very costly and the storing firms are allowing the renters to carry out some of the procedures on their own.
Many renters are opting for self service storage because it saves upon a lot of time. Moreover, automated billing tends to be more accurate than the manual one. It has also been understood that the valuable expertise of the storing industry professionals was being wasted in supervising routine jobs. By giving the renters the option to carry out some of the routine jobs the experts get time to devote on developmental activities.
However, it has to be understood that the renters can be allotted certain tasks only if the process is made simple for them. This can be achieved by using user friendly technology. In simple terms the procedures involved in storing the items should be presented in an easily understandable form to the self service storage renters. They should be able to perform their responsibilities smoothly with their present knowledge and understanding of the storing process. For this, the authorities of the firm providing the storing amenities should decide upon the technological innovations, introductions and modifications that are required.
They should also contemplate on how to incorporate the changes in the present procedures. The implications of the changes should be forecasted and estimated. The technology implemented should not require the renters to put great efforts in learning them. They should be easily understood and implemented by them. The renters can use self service storage in a number of levels in a progressive manner. The starting point is operation of the storing chamber which is a very easy task and is assumed to be understood by every renter. The technology should allow a large number of renters to perform storing operations simultaneously. This requires programming databases that can be simultaneously accessed by a number of users. The databases should be able to maintain the privacy of each renter and it should be able to interact with the renters on an individual basis. The software used should be able to support sequential and transactional operations and it should have a good capacity to perform well.
Till now, the self service storage users can find the above mentioned software features in extremely sophisticated arrays. But this can be very expensive. The effort of the storing amenities providing firm should be to bring the desired software features to mid and low range arrays. But there are some hurdles with this. The mid range arrays may be less expensive than the high range ones but they do not support multiple users and scalability. They support single user systems without scalability. The software should be able to provide secure usage and administrative privacy not only to users of high end arrays but also the ones who use mid and low end arrays.
