Residents of Basalt Storage Units
-
In the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains there is a growing need for the Basalt storage units and the self storage prices are competitive in the area . This tiny alpine town, though never a star itself has done backup for the famous community of Aspen since its early days. During the last years of the 1800s, this area of Colorado was flooded with miners during the silver rush era. Big new money changed these small ranching communities from little more than trading posts to flourishing boom towns almost over night. The prosperity brought about a building frenzy as new residents erected ornate Victorian homes and substantial public buildings where log cabins and even tents had been the norm up until that time. During its heyday the area had a hospital, two banks, an opera house and even electric lights. Even with all this sophistication it remained a rough and rowdy place behind the frilly Victorian trimmings. When the mines played out in the last years of the century the towns had put down enough roots to sustain them in the long period of sleepy decline between the silver fever and the advent of equally enthusiast tourists and skiers who brought the area back to life. In the 1960s a new feeling began to take over this small town, so long left to itself in the high alpine valley of the Roaring Fork River.
The Basalt storage units as well as lots of other conveniences had their start at this time when the outside world began to rediscover the glories of the beautiful and pristine area. The quaint qualities of the small town with its Victorian architecture and spectacular scenery began to attract large numbers of tourists. At first, most people simply came for a visit and then headed back down the mountain to Denver. Before long the rush was on to build second homes on the alpine slopes and accommodations for the growing numbers of tourists and skiers. Basalt itself was once again playing second fiddle to it near neighbor, Aspen. As the rich and famous built fabulous chalets in Aspen the original population was squeezed out by the rising cost of living.
Basalt saw lots of use as the construction and support workers from Aspen moved into town. Housing was limited and the nature of the original homes did not lend itself for storing and safekeeping of construction equipment and all the gear the newcomers had to deal with. Eventually, the mad rush became more manageable and additional housing eased the storing spaces. Today, Basalt is a kind of bedroom community for those working in Aspen which has given it a stability it never had a chance to enjoy before.
In the extreme climate of the Colorado Rockies summer and winter are complete opposites. Basalt units are constantly in use storing skis and snow boards during the summer and barbeque equipment and summer clothes during the long winters. In the region of extremes the option of having affordable and accessible climate controlled conditions for items like electronics helps residents immensely. This in not an area where you can put something in a shed out back unless you are prepared to shovel three feet of show to get to it and do not mind it being frozen solid for months. The residents of this picturesque mountain community have reason to be glad of the Basalt storage units .
