Proof reading on late night TV

  • Last night I was watching the Jay Leno show. He does a funny bit on Monday nights called Headlines. Now the beginning of a show wasn’t very funny because he talked about hurricane Katrina. But by the time he got to headlines, it was time for lighter fare. One of the pieces he showed was a coupon for a self storage facility. There are many of them. It was a coupon from a church bulletin that offered a $1.00 move in special. Who ever put the coupon in the bulletin meant to give something back to the church in return for the ad and offered ten percent of the first month rent as a donation to the church.

The problem as is that the coupon looked as if it read ten percent of the dollar would be given to the church. I know that’s not what they meant, but you do need to be careful how you promote. Probably many people saw this and laughed or thought it was cheap to give only 10 cents to the church. It’s always a good idea to let several people proofread your marketing materials before you let them out the door. Once they’re gone from your possession you can’t call them back.

Today I look forward to meeting several vendors and clients here at the self storage association meeting as we set up our booth and get the conference underway. I’m curious to see where everyone feels the industry is and where it is going. And I might even get to work on a few interesting deals, too.

    bye for now, Tron
