Moving On

I was talking to one of my associates who went to St. Louis, MO after transferring schools. She transferred to another Best Buy that was in her area to work. She tells me that she is not having such a good time.
Unfortunately in some parts of the country, some Best Buy stores are not hitting their goals. Since they were not hitting their goals, some of the managers get stressed out and do not know what to do to fix the problems so they can achieve their goals. Sometimes the managers get on the associates, yell at them and give them write ups for not doing their jobs.My old associate has always done a good job selling and taking care of the customer. Unfortunately her supervisor has told her that she is not doing a good job. This is a total random turn of events. Until that point, that supervisor never said a thing to her. After the conversation, she was hurt, and wanted to leave the company. She felt underappreciated.
If you are a manager of a self storage facility and you have people under you even a district manager of some self storage facilities, you have to treat your people well. Of course, if your people don’t perform, you can then performance manage them. The key is everyday, say something to them that is constructive and that they can improve on if needed. You have to have also mix in some positive comments to them as well. When customers walk in to the storage facility, they need to have an upbeat attitude, which can not happen if they feel like they underappreciated.
