Maximize Storage Space

  • In the present times, living in a palatial bungalow is a dream even for the richest of us. Today, staying in an urban locality means one has to compromise with the free area available. Hence it is very necessary for one to plan out how he is going to arrange his furniture in the house so that he can create the maximum free area to the best of his ability. A part of the additional area that is created can be used as storage area. There are certain guidelines that he can follow in order to make his living quarters place, clean and free of cluttering

    • When moving into a small accommodation one should dispose or sell any existing old furniture if it is too big for the new accommodation and buy small-sized, light and portable furniture so that there will be some free area in the house.

It is not enough to just buy small-sized furniture, one should know how to arrange it too, so that every bit of the household is utilized wisely and economically. It is seen that in many houses there is a lot of furniture yet, there is adequate place for storage and for moving about freely. On the other hand there are those houses where there is less furniture, but the existing ones are so arranged that they occupy big spaces in the house, transforming a large part of the usable area into useless area. If arranged properly the extra place can be used economically. By arranging the items in the household in a neat manner one need not depend on professional spaces for their storing purposes.

    • In order to increase warehousing spaces one can use furniture with multiple functionality. For example, a sofa that can double up as a bed or a divan can be used, instead of installing a sofa and a bed separately in a room. It will not only give additional storage area but will also save one from making an investment in two separate items. Tables that can be folded back and hinged to the walls after usage can be used to get some free area.

    • It is generally seen that the bathroom is a neglected area. Usually the bathroom accessories like towels, soaps, shampoos and shower caps can be kept in shelves in the bathroom itself. There is no necessity to keep these items in the bedroom or any other place. The undersink area is generally overlooked. It can be nicely utilized for storing purposes. By neatly arranging the bathroom one gets a lot of place in other parts of the house.

    • Multiple utility shelves can be built to address the storage problem. Conventionally, a bookcase is usually used to store books only. The shelf can be so designed that a part of it serves as a cabinet for storing clothes and another part of it can be used for displaying books. This shelf can also be featured with cabinets to store paraphernalia.

    • Heavy and big chairs can be replaced with ottomans that have spaces for storing items underneath. Even sofas and beds that have cabinets in the underneath are a good option. Instead of a horizontal arrangement for beds for children, a two or three tiered arrangement can save up on spaces that can be used for storage purposes.
