Items You Can NOT Keep In Self Storage Units
-
Self storage units are used for storing a variety of household or official items. These areas preserve the articles kept in them for long periods of time. But many of the firms that provide storing amenities restrict the type of items that can be stored in their storing areas. For example, they may not allow one to store combustible materials because they can be hazardous in the event of any fire in the premises. Usually before hiring out the storing areas, the renters have to sign a written agreement in which the type of items they can store is mentioned. Generally any item that is potentially hazardous is not allowed to be stored. The renter can hire the storing areas only after they agree to abide by the rules and regulations laid down by the firm.
Before putting them in self storage units a list of the items to be stored is to be made. This list is to be taken to the store manager who will verify the list and see if it includes any items that cannot be permitted to be stored. Getting the list verified is always recommended because if the items are all taken to the storing area without verification, there is a good chance of some of the items being rejected, in which case transporting them back home is pretty cumbersome and wastefully expensive also. The prospective tenant should also mention each and every item that he intends to store in the storing area to the store manager, without concealing any details. Storing items surreptitiously is an offence and the concerned authorities might penalize the renter on discovering the faulty act.
In self storage units one can generally store household and official furniture, household and official accessories, files and any other valuable items. There are certain materials that are prohibited. The items that are toxic, flammable, hazardous or combustible are generally not allowed to be stored in the storing areas as they can turn out to be dangerous at any time. The items that belong to this category are kerosene, gasoline, propane, compressed gas, lamp and motor oils, corrosives, grease, paints, chemicals, acids, narcotic drugs and biological waste products. Hence, cooking gases, fuel oils and gases should not be stored in storing units as they are potentially hazardous.
Many firms offering self storage units allow vehicles to be stored in their storing units. But, they allow only those vehicles that have a valid registration number and those that are insured when in working condition. Tires can also be stored in the storing areas but many firms do not allow a renter to store more than four tires in a single storing area. Storing areas can also be used by druggists to store drugs and medicines in large numbers. However, they should be very careful about selecting a storing area with optimum temperature and humidity. Otherwise, the drugs might get damaged and circulation of such drugs in the market can prove to be hazardous for the consumer.
The self storage units are not used to store radioactive substances as they are highly dangerous to the people who come into contact with them. They can cause blood cancer and other types of cancer in human beings. It is rather illegal to store radioactive substances in storing areas.
