How Will Gas Prices Effect Self Storage?
-
As we all know gas prices are rising again, and that means less money in our pockets. So, what does that mean for storage? Truthfully, since people still need to move, self-storage business sales will probably not decrease by that much. Unfortunately, people are still getting evicted on a daily basis, and are forced into situations in which they absolutely have to move or get a storage unit. However, because gas prices are killing our pockets our self-storage customers have less money to rent a unit if they just wanted some extra space. We all can relate to not having extra money because gas prices have risen so high. I can remember back in the day (I’m only 20, but it seems like forever) when I could fill up my tank with $20. That seems like a dream now. I put $20 dollars in my tank just yesterday, and I promise I heard my car laugh at me, and the gauge went to a half of a tank. I guess that is pretty good considering it took about $38 for my mom’s truck to be half full, or should I say half empty. Anyway, we are seeing the effects of the gas prices here at the PhoneSmart call center. Location is even more of a deciding factor as it has been in the past. Customers don’t want to waste a drop of precious gas, even if it means a somewhat cheaper storage unit.
