Giving Good Experiences

  • Yesterday I took a phone call that began with uncertainty and resulted in a reservation.  The customer was comparing self storage rates.  At first she only wanted the price.  I went through the call as if she were going to rent with us because our facility was truly the best choice for her.  She gave me many reasons as to why she was not ready to rent and how much more affordable another place was for her.  I reminded her that sales increase during this time of year and told her that she really should not wait much longer or we might not have the unit when she calls back.  This customer brought up the price difference a few times but I politely informed her that the other facility simply does not have the conveniences that we offer.  The security alone at the facility we were discussing was a huge value, but they also offered twenty four hour video surveillance, they were fenced and well lit and even had motion detectors.  When the customer expressed more concern about price I told her that a lot goes into the price and the other place is not as convenient as we are.  She may not have reserved, but she asked me how long I have worked in the self storage industry.  I responded that I have not been here long at all.  She complimented me and said that I really sound like I know what I’m talking about and I did a great job.  It feels great to know that I made such a good impression on the customer despite the fact that I didn’t get the reservation.  At least she will tell of her good experience with me and might reserve in the future.
