Dealing With Conflict
-
Last week several of the Directors and Managers at PhoneSmart listened to a phone seminar about dealing with difficult situations. There was some insightful suggestions and a lot of great examples.
The best way to deal with conflict in the workplace is to begin by taking a proactive approach at keeping conflict to a minimum. You can do that by making sure coworkers and employees know their job description and what is expected of them. Outlining tasks or projects and giving clear deadlines and expectations.
It’s important to provide job descriptions but also just as important is steering clear from micromanaging. Offering a clear picture of what the goals and expectations are while allowing each team member the freedom to complete tasks their way is the best way to allow everyone’s creativity and positive attitude to flow.
The other equally important step in dealing with difficult situations is to deal with them promptly, when they arise. The reason or flag that triggers a need for response from the manager or supervisor is if work is being counterproductive and the issue has spread from just one person to maybe a few or all of the department.
