Total Quality Assurance Services has Quality Assurance Coaching“Be Prepared” is a great motto, especially when it comes to moving and self storage.
For all of the “Do It Yourselfers” out there, theRule #1 START EARLY
If you know 6 months in advance that you will be moving, start packing now! If you are going to need storage as well, tour a site or two in your area. Storage facilities sell all kinds of moving and storage supplies, so make it a dual-purpose visit.Rule #2 PACK ITEMS YOU DONT USE FIRST
You all know what I’m talking about! The 5 year old files. The photo albums, the bowling ball in the closet. Starting slow makes the end process a lot smoother. By the time you are ready to move, you will already have good practice at packing a box. Make sure you are purchasing quality boxes, though, and don’t overstuff!Rule #3 LABEL YOUR BOXES
Some people label them as kitchen, bath, closet, etc. Others (more organized) number each box with a list of the contents. This may prove handy if you need to dig out the ball glove that you hadn’t used for years or locate the good China for an emergency relative in town for dinner.Rule #4 SAVE MONEY FOR THE MOVE
Anyone who has ever moved whether across town or across country knows the cost can get pretty heavy. If you have been smart enough to start early, you will already have an idea of how much money to have on hand on your moving date.Rule #5 USE QUALITY MOVERS
If you are doing it yourself, this does not apply. But if using a moving company, take the time to ask around about their reputation. You want your move to be smooth, timely, and without incurring damage to your belongings.Rule #6 CHOOSE A STORAGE FACILITY WITH EXTENDED GATE HOURS
Unless they are offering a free pick-up service, moving companies and do-it-yourselfers alike need a good time frame in order to complete unloading without risk of assessing additional fees. Some storage companies offer 24 hour access. It is nice to have this type of access just in case there is a delay.
Even though moving and storage isn’t a whole lot of fun, you can still be prepared! It will make all the difference in the world during your move.Disclamer: This entry is intended to promote our partner StorageMart and some or all participants received compensation.
