Antique Furniture Storage Auctions

  • Self storage auctions are held very commonly by firms that offer storing services to dispose a number of items that remain with them for a long time. Usually these items lie in the storehouses abandoned by their owners. There are a lot of items that can be found in these auctions, namely, furniture, jewelry, decorative pieces and a host of other household articles. The firms notify about their auctions well in advance through signposts and classified advertisements in newspapers.

Many times, some renters do not pay the rent for hiring the storehouses for long durations of time and they do not notify the relevant authorities about the reason of not paying their bills. In such cases, the firms send a notice to the renter for clearing his dues. If he does not respond to the notices and warnings of the firms, with legal permission the firms organize self storage auctions in which the items belonging to the faulty tenant are auctioned off. One can attend these auctions to see the proceedings. Sometimes really worthwhile items can be obtained from these auctions.

The auction is held on a date that is fixed in advance. The people who are interested in buying the items gather at the specified venue which is usually the premises of the storehouse. Everybody gets a chance to see all the items that are to be auctioned on a particular day. The prospective bidders are allowed to take a look into the storehouses that are to be auctioned. Usually the entire contents of a storehouse are auctioned. The auction does not take place on an item by item basis. After that the bidding starts.

The self storage auctions usually do not go on for a long period of time. The storehouses usually get auctioned within the first few minutes of the beginning of the bidding. These storehouses may contain household articles, business articles and sometimes costly jewelry. The auctioneers do not charge separately for the jewelry if one is lucky enough to get some in the storehouse that he gets. It is always better to let the auctioneer know the bid price beforehand. Otherwise, in the process, one might bid a greater amount than he originally intended for.

The bidders should be aware of fraudulent practices that go on in auctions in general. The auctioneers appoint their agents to make some false bids so that the genuine bidders follow and bid at high prices. In self storage auctions it is generally seen that there will be two or three bidders who keep constantly bidding higher than others. One has to be very careful about these practices and see to it that he is not duped. One should only bid to an extent that he really thinks the item is worth and not get carried away by the biddings of other bidders. One should not engage in inappropriate competition in auctions as many times, one might end up paying much more than an item is actually worth.

The self storage auctions are like games based on luck. If one is fortunate enough he might land up with something precious, otherwise he lands up with garbage. As nobody really gets to know the contents of a storehouse in detail, it is always better to take low risk and bid within reasonable limits.
