Ancillary Products and Services

In the beginning self storage owners merely needed to provide a fairly safe and clean environment for people to store their things.  Over the years competition has become much more intense and customers have developed higher expectations.  To overcome these obstacles many self storage facilities now provide ancillary products and services to help expand their customer base. 

Moving and Storage Supplies – this is a given!  Everyone storing anything needs at least one more box, another roll of tape, mattress covers, etc.  The convenience of having a one-stop shop works well for both the customer and the storage facility.

Rental Trucks – storage customers are often relocating or remodeling and need transportation to get their goods to their storage unit.

  
RV and Boat Storage – Baby Boomers are becoming empty nesters, with extra disposable income.  And many Home Owners’ Associations do not like these big toys stored in the neighborhood!

Wine Storage – Baby Boomers have also given up kegs of beer from their college days and found fine wine to be more to their liking.

Document Storage and Shredding – government and tax regulations require various industries to save documents for a lot of years.  And Identity Theft is certainly a big fear in this present day and age!

Mobile Storage – Mobile storage is a fairly new concept that has opened up the doors to customers that may not have been interested in traditional storage.  The ability to pack at one’s own pace, leave the driving to someone else, and unpacking only once is very appealing to a new segment of the population.

Having a competitive edge in any business is extremely important.  Ancillary products and services can be a great way to attain that edge in the world of self storage!
